Bushinkai: About the school

Bushinkai is affiliated to Shikon, Shobukan Karate Organisation, Karate England, International Karate Union, United World Karate, International Toshu Jutsu Federation, British Council for Chinese Martial Arts, International Wushu Federation, British Jujutsu Federation, United Kingdom Budo Federation (formerly IMAF GB), Shoto Ryu Karate UK and the Martial Arts Standards Agency. Bushinkai is therefore recognised worldwide for Okinawan, Japanese and Chinese Martial Arts.

Bushinkai is run by one of the UK’s most qualified Karate instructors, Shidoin Simon Keegan. Among his credentials:

  • Hereditary head of a 250 year old boxing tradition (Sakugawa Ryu)
  • 5th Dan in Shobukan Karate graded directly by the headmaster (World Union of Karatedo Federations, International Karate Union, United World Karate)
  • Renshi in Jujutsu and Shoto Ryu Karate (old style Shotokan) the same teaching title held by Gichin Funakoshi, awarded by Dai Nippon Butokukai
  • 3rd Dan in Nisseikai Karate (Goju Ryu Karate & Feeding Crane) under the auspices of headmaster Tadanori Nobetsu
  • 2nd Dan in Sato Ryu Nihon-den Jujutsu under the auspices of headmaster Shizuya Sato
  • Grades recognised and stamped as authentic Japanese Budo by the hereditary shogun Mr Tokugawa Yasuhisa
  • Interviewed for Martial Arts Illustrated by Karate legend Alfie ‘the animal’ Lewis, also featured in Traditional Karate, Fighters and more
  • Authored several historic studies including The Lost Book of Kushanku and work has been read in over 100 countries
  • Founder member of the English Karate Federation
  • Promoted and taught on masters course with T Wingrove, A Ruddock, A Tattersall to celebrate 50 years of British Karate in 2006
