Bushinkai demo at Japanese festival

Bushinkai was at Doki Doki Japanese Festival at the weekend.

Chief instructor Simon Keegan gave two demos of Karate and Jujutsu assisted by Matthew Brooke. There were also demos of Kobudo and Ninjutsu. But the day had much more than martial arts.

There was also the traditional boardgame of Go, prized by the Samurai and a superb instructional tea ceremony.

A highlight was traditional Taiko drumming.

There was traditional Japanese dance, opera singing and craft as well as stalls from the likes of the Japan Society.

Excellent sushi, green tea and snacks were served and the modern Japanese phenomena of cosplay, anime and video games were also represented.
